Following his graduation from Oak Hill High School in 1965, Dan Brisker matriculated to Capital University (Bachelor of Science degree in 1969) and eventually to The Ohio State University, where he received his Master of Arts degree in educational administration in 1973.  At Capital, Dan was a four year letter winner in basketball and golf.

Dan began his 36-year career in education at Columbus Bishop Ready High School (1969-70) before moving to Canal Winchester High School as the head basketball coach (1970-78).  During his eight years at Winchester, Dan’s teams won 75 percent of their games and he became the school’s athletic director and assistant principal.  He spent two years in the Gallipolis City Schools (1978-80), 11 years as principal at Kyger Creek High School in Cheshire (1980-81), and 15 years in the Wellston City School District, retiring in 2006 after serving six years as superintendent.  

Dan was elected to the Southeast District Athletic Board in 1984 and served 22 years as a member.  He is currently the board’s secretary.  He was a member of the OHSAA Board of Directors for three terms (1986-88; 1994-96; 2000-02) and was elected president of the board during the 1995-96 school year and vice president twice.  He also worked on a variety of OHSAA committees.

“I have been blessed in my life,” Brisker said.  “I’ve had wonderful and positive parents, professional colleagues in the OHSAA and tremendous mentors along the way.”  He especially noted his years at Canal Winchester, where “my first principal, Bill McCann, because the guiding force in my educational career.”

Dan resides in his native Oak Hill.  He has three children and four grandchildren.  Daughter Alison, a school administrator, and her husband, Chad, have two children, Eli (5) and Emma Grace (2).  Daughter Danette, a school psychologist, and her husband, Mike, are the parents of Sophie (7) and Max (3).  Son Jason lives and works in the Portsmouth area.

In addition to his position as the Southeast District Athletic Board secretary, Dan also operates a private sector business.
